General Questions

I heard Relay For Life is going to be virtual this year now, is that true?

Yes. While it is disappointing that we must re-invent our Relay this year we wanted to make sure that people can still Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back

How will a Virtual Relay For Life work?

We're going to light up social media with photos sent in by our teams & survivors and instead of our usual Candle of Hope ceremony, which is a very special part of Relay, we will have a 'Hope from Home' ceremony at 9pm where we will share pictures of your decorated candle bags. At that time we will invite everyone that is taking part to light their candles at home to Remember and Celebrate.

I had registered a team, how can we all still participate while adhering to government guidelines?

It is crucial that we stay safe and adhere to whatever government guidelines are in place at that time, however, there is nothing to stop families from marking the day at home. You can wear your Relay t-shirt, set up camp in the garden if you like, follow our event on Facebook and light your candle bags at 9pm on Saturday night. You can also donate individually on our website.

If I registered a team, can I be refunded?

Of course. While the Irish Cancer Society is more reliant on our fundraising than ever this year we understand that many people have been affected by Covid-19 and simply may not be in a position to leave their registration fees with us. If you want a refund simply get in touch by private message to our Facebook page.

Will I still get my T-Shirt?

T-shirt dispatch is currently on hold due to the public health measures in place for COVID-19. Fulfilment of all t-shirt orders will resume once restrictions have been lifted and the team at the Irish Cancer Society can work in safety.

Can I register a new team if I had not done so already?

Yes please, register a team here on this site with us!

Will it go ahead on the same date?

We've opted to keep the same date of June 20th.

How can I participate?

Please check out our Facebook page for events on the day. For fundraising events, we're looking for events themed around 24 for Life. You can create a fundraising event before the day itself and then send us pictures along with how much you raised. We recommend following all the health and safety guidelines for your events.

What can I expect from a virtual event?

You can wear your Relay t-shirt, set up camp in the garden, on the street, or anywhere that is safe and within the government guidelines, follow our event on Facebook on Saturday night, making sure to keep up social distancing!

What about candle bags?

Candle bags are available to purchase on our website and will be posted out to you. We will also be making them available in some local shops (to be advised). Make sure and order in plenty of time to get them delivered and give yourself time to get them decorated before our event
